Sellfy vs Payhip
Both are hosted storefronts for creators selling digital products, and reviewers report a live store in under half an hour on either. The real difference is how each charges as you grow. Sellfy takes a flat monthly fee with no transaction cut but caps annual sales on each plan. Payhip has a free plan that takes a percentage of each sale, and it states that revenue is unlimited on every tier. Tax handling and built-in merchandise tools also separate them.

Verdict
Pick Sellfy if you sell a mix of digital products and merchandise to an audience you already have and want fewer subscriptions. Print-on-demand, email campaigns, discount codes, upsells and cart recovery all live in one account, and there is no platform cut on sales. The catch is the revenue caps. Each plan has an annual sales ceiling, and Sellfy’s pricing FAQ says sellers who exceed it are expected to upgrade and may pay a 2% overage fee. Costs rise in steps as you succeed, and tax handling outside a few major regions is largely your job.
Pick Payhip if you want to validate a product before paying anything, sell courses or software that needs license keys, or sell into the EU, UK, US or Canada, where Payhip states it collects and pays the relevant digital taxes. The tradeoff is the percentage fee on the Free and Plus plans, which gets expensive faster than beginners expect, plus reports of variable support response times and manual affiliate payouts. For either platform, work out your break-even between a flat fee and a percentage cut at your realistic monthly revenue before choosing a tier.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which is cheaper, Sellfy or Payhip?
It depends on your sales volume. Payhip's free plan has no monthly fee but takes 5% of each sale, while Sellfy starts at $29 a month with no transaction fee but caps annual sales per plan. Payment processor fees apply on top with both.
Which one handles sales tax for me?
Payhip states it collects and pays digital EU/UK VAT and US/Canadian sales tax, while other jurisdictions remain your responsibility. Reviewers describe Sellfy's tax handling as limited, with international compliance largely left to the seller.
Can I sell print-on-demand merchandise?
Sellfy has built-in print-on-demand covering t-shirts, hoodies, mugs and hats. Payhip supports physical goods, but our review does not describe a print-on-demand feature.
